During the active phase of your orthodontic treatment, your teeth will be in constant movement from their pre-treatment positions to their final positions. When active tooth movement is complete, initially your teeth will not be stable in their final positions.
As a result, all orthodontic patients require retainers following active treatment, to maintain the final positions of their teeth. During the retention period your teeth will become more stable over time, and the need for wearing retainers will be reduced.
The importance of wearing retainers as instructed cannot be overemphasized. Should you ever feel your retainers are not fitting properly, are lost or broken, please contact our office immediately. We will be happy to schedule an appointment to adjust your retainers, or make arrangements to have your retainers repaired or replaced as quickly as possible.
We’ll guide you through this final stage of your orthodontic experience. Carefully following our retainer wear guidelines will assure long term success!
